Solution focused therapy is a goal-directed collaborative approach that we take to psychotherapeutic change that is conducted through direct observation of our clients’ responses to a series of carefully and precisely constructed questions. We use this method to identify the strength of each adolescent that we come into contact with, as well as their entire family. Through this process, we also determine what sorts of therapy and tasks have worked in the past. We can use that insight to eradicate defiant behaviors that we notice on display in the client.
We incorporate Solution Oriented Therapy into the daily interactions that the entire team has with all of the clients and their families. These principles also affect the way the entire team interacts during individual, group, and family therapy sessions.
We want to focus on the future, and optimizing the future of every client. We don’t want to dwell on the past unnecessarily. Sometimes, the past can be an uncomfortable topic. We learn what we need to about the past of our clients, to ensure that we don’t repeat mistakes and that we are able to fully understand each clients’ specific situation. And then, moving forward, we focus on the future and all of the positive things that the future holds.
