For parents of troubled girls, helping them become strong women means building positive and consistent relationships that support each other, even when mistakes are made.  A girl’s relationship with each of her parents and her observations of their relationship will be the strongest influence in her development. A daughter’s observation of her mother as an equal partner in an adult, loving relationship provides a core experience that will help her learn a sense of self worth as a woman. It is important for families to recognize that everyone deserves to be treated with respect, including girls. Teaching teens to seek out and appreciate the unique talents and abilities of others and themselves, as well as being open to new learning and growing experiences will contribute to helping troubled girls become strong women.

It is a parent’s job to prepare their children to achieve their best potential and to overcome traditional stereotypes that encourage girls to be nothing more than sweet, kind and nice. There are several things parents can do to help troubled girls become strong women.
